Not sure of what to expect from hooping? Will it suit you? Is it too hard? What is a class like?
All these...and more...questions can be asked by a simple visit to a 30 minute come n try session at Tonsley, every Monday evening, once booked in. I supply sample hoops, of many sizes, and can give you a short lesson that will clue you in on a full on class. An Eventbrite booking will set you up for this. All hoops are supplied.
At 7.00 to 7.30 pm come n try for those booked in starts, also at gate 8. ( book via eventbrite, $10). Everything is supplied for that; you need only to wear clothes you can move in easily, and bring some water.
A hoop jam starts at 7.30, which is a free session designed for people to practice moves by themselves, or with friends. There is no cost for that but you are encouraged to have your own hoop or flow toys, and to dress for action. The hoop jam runs till 8.30, or whenever you've had enough. This is usually held near the top of the stairs, in lighted areas under shelter...by Gate 8.
At 7.30- 8.30 there is also a casual hoop dance session, where, once you book in (via eventbrite, $20) you will be exposed to several basic hoop moves and body moves that will help you learn hoop skills. You are welcome to join the hoop jam after if you are still feeling energetic! Again, it's best to eventually get your own equipment, but lesson folk may borrow from what is available. This is held at the top of the gate 8 stairs, in light and under cover. At 8.15 you will have a free time session where you can practise your new moves and use different sized hoops, and join in the hoop jam if it's still going.
If you want to pick up a hoop order or discuss one you want built, the jam session is a good time to do that.
You may discover Beginners on Thursdays 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm, suits you. This course runs weekly with Eventbrite booking, at $20 a session for as many weeks as you like. It is one hour long, costs $20, and you will need to wear close fitting clothes you can move in. Bring water too.
You may opt for a private come n try session at a different time or place. The cost for that is higher due to transport arrangements, at $20. Simply book in via email (so I make sure I have lots of samples).
The 30 minute session will enable you to discover what kind of hooping suits you, and there is no option to sign up to anything. Enjoy your session!
Gate 8 is on the West side of the Tonsley complex, the extreme end of Alawoona Ave, Clovelly Park. It is 200m past the Tonsley Railway station, by a large lawn at the top of a wide flight of stairs. You will find entry at the northeast corner of the carpark. Parking is free and abundant. You will need to wear clothes that let you move freely, and bring some water. Toilets are on site but need my keycard to enter.
