if you'd like to make your own basic hoop, see instructions below.
this method makes fairly lightweight ones, but is very quick and easy.

Write down your measurement. (Mine was 100 cm, or 1 metre)
Take your roll of tubing, and lay it out on top of your measuring tape, or whatever you used. Carefully unwrap the tubing, which might unroll a little.
Lay the free end over the roll so it sits on top of the end of your tape. Hold it on top of the roll with your piece of sticky tape. It might try to spring apart so hold it firmly. Put your stickytape on the part that is over the roll and over the end of the measuring tape, and stick it down around the end of the free end. You should have two bits of tubing stuck together.

Now, holding both parts of the tubing together, pick them up, and cut them so one end is flush with the other.
You have just made a tubing circle.
Now, take your joiner and push it into one end of the tube, then the other. It make take some strength, and some people put the tubing into a cup of hot water to make this easier. Your adult should help you with this if it's needed.
You now have the hula hoop base. Yes, take it outside and spin it...it should be pretty easy, but lesson two is DECORATION.

If you want to decorate your hoop, you need strips of paper, tape, material, alfoil...whatever! about 2 cm wide. These need to be wrapped around the hoop, secured with sticky tape as you go, and then overwrapped with wide packaging tape to hold everything down and protect it.
Book in for a live session, hook up with Zoom, or have your friends around to stick things together!
See' Craft a hoop' tab at the top and we can discuss good venues.
You'll need any or all of these items; you can buy this at Bunnings.
DECORATIVE OPTIONS
Electrical tape ( any color you like) (electrical aisle) or
Masking tape (tapes and paint aisle) or
Wrapping paper ( cut this into strips about 2 cm wide) (leftover from Christmas or parties is fine) or
Plastic flagging tape ( hot pink or orange, safety aisle) or
Alfoil cut into strips, lolly wrappers, chocolate wrappers ( yummy)
Basically anything you can wrap or stick around a tube.
You will need your packaging tape (the wide clear roll) as well.
AND LASTLY, if you want to put an edge over your work, to protect it further, use a roll of electrical tape. (back at electrical)

DEVIL STICKS
Or flower sticks, if they have flowers on the end.
If you are stuck inside and haven't got space for a hoop, have a go at these. They're quick and easy to make and the materials are easy to get.
You need;
A piece of dowelling, or pvc tube, or a skinny old broomstick, about one and a half times your height and as wide as your middle finger.
Electrical tape
Alfoil (about a 20 cm legth off a roll)
Scissors
AND THE NON SLIP MATERIAL....At Bunnings, the Magic Stop Non slip grip...down by the tiles section, about $8 a square meter.
OR Go to your local bike shop and beg an old inner tube. Make sure it's the kind with no ridges in the rubber.
OR if you have a non skid material, give it a go. I've used gecko mat at times, and that stuff you put under carpets to stop them sliding around.
First up: measure.
You need 2 pieces as long as your arm. These are the HAND STICKS
and the leftover bit is going to be as long as your breastbone to your palm. That is the DEVIL (or flower) STICK.

Now you cut your non skid lining into strips about 2 cm wide. Keep them as long as you can. You can join them with electrical tape if you need to. Wind them on to each stick as tightly as you can. Just do the 2 hand sticks for now.
Secure with electrical tape at each end.

Now take your longer devil stick and wrap it all the way along in electrical tape. Once that is done, wrap your non skid tape around it. You can cover the whole stick, leave a bit free, or do a spiral wrap. Just keep it on tight.
The blue stick shows the standard spiral pattern, and uses inner tube rubber over a blue electrical tape base, which works really well.
I did a full wrap, and used clear silicone tape over the middle of my red one, but whatever you do is fine.
Just remember that electrical tape is skiddy. You are relying on the non skid tape to make the sticks work.

To do the ends (called "FLOWERS") get your piece of alfoil and stick strips of electrical tape on it. Each piece should be about 25 cm long. Cut along the electrical tape so that a piece of alfoil sticks to the back.
Then get your non skid material and cut pieces 2 cm by 12 cm. These are going to roll around the end of the devilstick.
Fold the alfoil bits in half and stick them to a piece of electrical tape, alternating with your cut off bits of non skid.
When finished, roll them along the end.
Make another set for the other end.

Balance the devil stick on your finger to find the midpoint, and tape it. I used white because it shows up. Tag your hand stick ends too..why not!
